Distant Relations: How My Ancestors Colonized North America Victoria Freeman |
| The fascinating and disturbing story of how Europeans invaded North America and took it from its native tribes is told with a personal twist in Distant Relations: How My Ancestors Colonized North America. Victoria Freeman undertook a personal project to discover her own links to the colonization, and what emerges is an engaging and provocative look at the past. She discusses the attitudes that led to the tragic destruction of native culture, and the stories that unfolded during the time of Freeman's ancestors. Through a thorough examination of their stories, and visiting the places where they lived, she has assembled a portrait that seeks to understand an era whose goals created our society at a terrible cost.

The American Heritage History of the Great West Author David Lavender , Editor Alvin MJr. Josephy |
| Here is the epic story of the exploration and conquest of the West from 1763, when England won
dominion over territory stretching as far as the Mississippi, to the twilight of the frontier in the early
twentieth century. Some of the most dramatic events of our past were packed into the years in between, including the first explorations, the relentless push of the pioneers, the gold rushes, the race to build the railroads, the land booms, and the exploits of the badmen and the vigilantes.
