Healing Journey for Women in Canada

7 days

Come join us for an experience of serenity and activity. Experienced guide and psychologist will travel with you to give you an experience of wilderness living that will renew and restore you. There will be daily activities to help you connect with the earth and your physical self. The route is carefully chosen to provide solitude and enhance women's experience of safety and confidence in traveling and camping together. There will be some opportunity to challenge yourself in canoeing and camping skills, as well as white water for the adventurous.

Living in the world today exposes people to experiences that dysregulate the nervous system and results in physical and psychological distress. Symptoms of anxiety, panic, chronic pain and depression can all be signs of dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system. Motor vehicle accidents, surgery, anaesthesia and assault serve to dysregulate our nervous systems. Responses such as fight, flight and freeze, when incomplete, result in a kindling of the nervous system. Kindling can show up as insomnia, panic and anxiety and tension in the body. Our bodies have the natural capacity to return to regulation, resulting in a healthier experience of life.

Come join us and experience renewal, resiliency and discovery in the wilderness. This experience is being lead by Theresa Driediger and Shannon Bond.

Theresa Driediger MA is a Registered Psychologist in Saskatchewan and Alberta. She has been practicing since 1987 in the areas of family therapy and trauma recovery. She is an advanced practitioner of Self-Regulation Therapy (see CFTRE.com) as well as EMDR, Level II. She has be canoe outfitting with her husband Ric Driediger at Churchill River Canoe Outfitters since 1978.

Shannon Bond BA Anthropology. Shannon has been guiding canoe trips for 15 years and has extensive experience working with youth and children in High River, Alberta.

How does this trip make a difference:

Your canoe trip in the Maclennon Lake area will help support the local, northern Saskatchewan economy. This operation employs many local people – both native and non-native. As much as possible, supplies and other needs are purchased locally. We are involved in the local community government and community events. Coming on this canoe trip will help us continue to do these things.

The Maclennon Lake area is very special. It is often called the Churchill uplands. Other than a few cottages the area has remained untouched by industry. Recently, with the increase in gold prices, gold exploration has dramatically increased in the region. This trip will be used to help monitor the activities of gold exploration companies in the area. We are working along with CPAWS through our partners to help monitor these activities. A portion of the proceeds from this trip will go towards supporting CPAWS. CPAWS is the only environmental organization working to protect this region of northern Saskatchewan.
