Mountain Magic Day Hikes in the Canadian Rockies
6 Days / 5 Nights
From the white-tipped peaks in June and the rainbows of wildflowers in July, to the bright leaves and salmon runs of September, this package is a collection of great day hike excursions into the rugged and beautiful wilderness of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Each day will offer a brand new and exciting hike to one of the many remote and secluded wilderness locations near our backcountry lodge.
Upon returning each night, you will have the opportunity to relax and enjoy our remote wilderness lodge accommodation by a lively campfire, talking with other guests from around the world, or soaking in silence in our outdoor, wood-fired, hot tub enjoying the surrounding mountain-view.
All of the hikes will include spectacular scenery that could include pristine alpine lakes, colorful meadows, and great mountain-top views overlooking rugged valleys, with many possible wildlife viewing opportunities. Day 1 Your arrival day into CrossRiver Wilderness Centre (CWC).
A hot evening meal will be served over some friendly introductions before an optional campfire gathering, and a relaxing night at the cabins.
Day 2 Bright and early we set out to the gorgeous Marvel Pass. We follow Aurora Creek for the first few kilometers before working our way up to the pass around the towering Mt. Eon.
The trail leads us through lush forest, old avalanche runs, boulder fields, and sub-alpine meadows to Aurora Lakes. Many past guests have called certain viewpoints from this trail, the “nicest place in the world they’ve ever been”.
Day 3 After breakfast, we hike out today to explore along the Kootenay and Cross Rivers. Cougar, wolves, and bear have all been spotted here and, during the September package, the Kokanee Salmon run works through the pristine blue waters, often attracting Bald and Golden Eagles to the water's edge.
Day 4 After breakfast we head out to the alpine gem on the edge of Banff National Park, Leman Lake. An amazing drive through the rugged wilderness of the Albert River Valley sets the scene, and the hike up to, and view of, the characteristic Leman Lake does not fall short of the standard.
The lake is often visited by bears, eagles, and porcupines and who knows what experiences await us this time.
Day 5 After breakfast, we set out for our final day hike to the lofty ridges of Tangle Peak. This out trip will offer spectacular views of rows of mountain peaks, in all directions, and golden valleys of larch trees in the fall.
You will get the opportunity to walk where eagles soar up here, and keep your eyes open for the mountain goats and bighorn sheep that may also be passing through.
We will arrive back at CWC just in time for a delicious, hot dinner and an optional final campfire gathering with music and stories.
Day 6 Today, a relaxing morning is in order with a hearty breakfast before we say goodbye and part ways until next time.
