A Life for Deer: A Deer Vet Tells His Story and Theirs Author John Fletcher |
| Humans and deer have held a social relationship for thousands of years, with humans acting variously as the deer's worst nightmare and guardian angel at different times. Deer, like so many creatures, have been over-hunted - venison used to be a staple of the European diet. Now these creatures face a steady and dangerous decline in numbers from their medieval peak, when thousands of deer roamed free. Thanks to conservation efforts, there are more deer running freely than ever before, but the battle is far from over, as John Fletcher explains in A Life for Deer. |
