We lived, ate, slept as the ancestors of this proud people did

By Gilles Philippe Delorme, Montréal

2005-08-05

If you go down the Mushuau-shipu, (the George for non-Aboriginal) you cannot allow yourself to avoid the greeting of the Innu of Ashini Adventure. In Wedge Point, they reconstituted on a famous caribou migration passageway the daily life of the Innu in this traditional Innu hunting ground.

We lived, ate, slept as the ancestors of this proud people did. We shared banik bread and tea with Serge and his team. We savoured caribou, grey trout and goose grilled on a wood fire. And we witnessed dazzling mornings and evenings, with breathtaking Northern skies. But we mainly learned a lot on the history, culture, and spirituality of the Innu who have patronized this mystical point for centuries.

We left enriched and deeply touched by the hospitality of Serge, Élisabeth, Annie, Ben and Réginald.

Thanks from the bottom of my heart.
